ABOUT THE ARTIST

Marcia Eliane Kane is the daughter of second generation Polish and German immigrants who emigrated to the south of Brazil following the second world war. Marcia was born in 1970 and herself emigrated to the United States in 1991 to study. Arriving in the U.S. with very little money, Marcia enrolled in dental laboratory school eventually graduating at the top of her class. “I always had the need to work with my hands, creating sculptures and being fascinated by colors and textures.” Because of her unique creativity with colors and artistry she was recruited to work as a reconstruction artist making artificial eyes, ears, noses and entire facial pieces by hand. In the clinic, Marcia worked for seven years restoring the dignity and self-respect to victims of cancer, traumatic accidents, and birth defects. “Being able to give my patients the gift of looking normal again and seeing the raw emotion and happiness my work provided them was a tremendous and fulfilling time in my life. Without that experience, I would not be the person I am today.”

In the year 2001, my husband and I decided to have children and on January 2nd, 2002 I gave birth to twins, Alexandra and Matthew. I left the clinic to become a stay at home mom. The urge to create and to work with my hands was becoming overwhelming—and calling to me again! I did not know what to do, until a trip to Barcelona, Spain. During the trip, I discovered Parc Guell (a mosaic treasure trove created by Antonio Gaudi and Eusebi Guell) and my heart was reborn by the inspiration of the mosaic arts and their creations. Fire and Inspiration was filling my heart and soul! I had discovered something very precious and made me peaceful inside. Upon my return to the U.S.A., excited and fascinated, I devoured every book or piece of literature I could find on mosaics. I began the process of learning and creating mosaic artwork. Amazingly I had found my purpose and talent in life. My passion and love for mosaic art is apparent in all my unique pieces. There are no two pieces the same, each one is an original! Since that fateful day in Barcelona, I have developed new techniques and worked with many different materials while growing and refining my art. I’m sure you will agree that my work is special. Each piece incorporates new ideas.

The more I work, the more inspiration comes to me. Many of my pieces come to me in my dreams, sometimes when walking or meditating. My work brings me peaceful feelings that I treasure so much. Each time I complete a piece, I can’t help but to stare at it for a while, thinking what can I do to make it better, always striving for improvement. I am happy to share my passion and inspiration with you and I hope that it’ll bring as much joy and happiness to you as it did to me while I was creating it.
